A Brief History of Baldface

Baldface and J-Bird circa 1995. Baldface Industries is the brainchild of an underachieving Midwestern bald man and his 4-foot-11-inch, once-estranged high-school sweetheart. It was launched in a converted warehouse in Jersey City, New Jersey in late 2007 with a six-color manual printing press, two dozen silkscreens, a homemade lightbox and a quality that the aforementioned bald man's great-grandfather might have called "chutzpah" had he been Jewish and not a gentile from South Dakota.

From the beginning, Baldface Industries committed itself to printing on American-made, fair-wage goods and apparel and to using eco-friendly biodegradable cleaning products (as opposed to the toxic spirits and thinners, which have long been industry standard). Baldface and J-Bird circa 2008. Baldface is also committed to partnering with local artists and creating compensation structures that benefit both the business and the artists. And perhaps most importantly, Baldface is committed to printing kick-ass T-shirts and apparel that will make your friends' mass-produced, store-bought gear look like it was printed on a burlap sack (and not a very nice burlap sack at that).

About Our Garments

The T-shirts and other goods that we sell have been handprinted in small batches by us and have been carefully cured to provide optimal garment life. Printed garments should NEVER be ironed or dry-cleaned.

Unless otherwise noted, our clothing has been sourced from American Apparel and printed with plastisol inks manufactured in New Jersey. If you have any doubts about your size, please consult our size charts. If necessary, borrow a measuring tape from a friend and wrap it around the appropriate body parts. (Yours not theirs.) Or, if you're really a go-getter, ride your bike to an American Apparel and try on a T. They won't mind; just don't tell them we sent you.

Of course, we want you to be thrilled with your new gear, so if you do order something and find that it doesn't fit or it's not your style, we will exchange it for you; we simply ask that you pay return shipping. Garments must be unworn and unwashed to be eligible for return.

Screenprinting is a messy business, and even though we do our best to catch all of our mistakes, a garment with an ink spot or tiny hole may occasionally slip past our watch. If you receive one, let us know and we'll replace it for you. Please remember that all of our clothing is handprinted and will show minimal variation from piece to piece. Try to think of each garment as a unique piece of wearable art. We do, and it makes us feel good.
